Ice Cream, RVs and $1 Hamburgers
We created a quick YouTube video for those of you who do not want to read. Full blog post is located under the video.
The Quartzsite Big Tent show most closely resembles a state fair. As such, we found the food to be of the same quality and variety. We did however find some interesting items I will share below. The first thing we happened across turned out to be a really neat ice cream stand. Swiss Family Farms sells slow churned home made ice cream. They actually use a steam powered engine to enable the slow churn process. RaeLynn went with the standard Chocolate ice cream, while Buck went with the more adventurous Roasted Butter Pecan.
Taco Mio
Anyone who has spent any time around us knows that we absolutely love Mexican food, and jump at any opportunity to try a new place. While not technically located inside the Big Tent, Taco Mio is only a few blocks away. The food was excellent, but as you will find in Quartzsite, the service is usually lacking. We were able to get our food ordered in quick fashion, but follow ups after receiving your food are non existent. Restaurants are overwhelmed throughout the Big Tent Show, and learning to manage your service expectations is a helpful exercise. RaeLynn of course went with the traditional Bean and Cheese Burrito, while Buck went with the Carnitas Taco plate.
Budget Find – $1 Hamburgers!
While driving to our boondocking spot in Scaddan Wash, we noticed a small sign mounted to a little burger shack called Randy’s Hamburgers. The sign read “$1 Hamburger with Onions – After 4PM”. We didn’t quite believe the sign, but since it was after 4:00 PM, we decided to give it a shot. True to their word, the Hamburgers are indeed just $1. They are not the largest hamburgers in the world, but they were flame grilled and quite delicious after a long day of walking the Big Tent.
Are you looking for a job?
While we know there are industry jobs that cater to the RV workforce, we didn’t expect to see many at the Big Tent Show. Not only were there several companies represented, there were quite a few we had never heard of. Everything from the Sugar Beet Harvest in Montana and Minnesota, JC Pennys, Guard 1 Oil Field Gate Guarding and too many summer vacation resorts to count. We were amazed to find that some of the companies were even signing up RVers on the spot. Jobs like the Sugar Beet Harvest and Amazon are a quick way for RVers to earn a little extra income.
RVs As Far As The Eye Can See
The absolute best part of the Big Tent Show is the sheer amount of RVs. The range includes everything from small Truck Campers to maxed out luxury Class A Diesel Motorhomes and everything in-between. If you are unsure what kind of RV would be the best fit for you, attending the Big Tent Show should be a priority. RV’s are stacked in rows and you are encouraged to walk inside, check storage bays, or relax on their furniture. We very rarely ran into a sales person and never felt any pressure when taking a look at the multitude of models. We attended several RV shows before making our purchases, but none of those shows came close to the amount of RVs represented at the Big Tent Show.
Looking At Products In Person
Its 2019, and I can honestly say that the majority of our RV related items came straight from Amazon. While we like the ability to purchase items from large RV stores like Camping World, we often find that the price for said items is far more expensive than online retailers. The Big Tent Show had a wide variety of RV items we use on a day to day basis. Not only were the prices competitive with Amazon, in many instances they were 5-10% lower. We used the opportunity to stock up on water filters, holding tank treatments and roof sealant. We also found some items that we had in our Amazon cart but were unsure of their size or fitment. Getting to feel the quality of the products and take real measurements aided us to finally make the purchase.
