Xscapers 2019 Bash (Day 5)

Day 5

After the skies cleared and the monsoon was over, we decided it was time to start exploring the city.  Our first stop was to a local Pizza shop called PZA Pizzeria.

The pizzas are wood fired and only take 90 seconds to bake.  RaeLynn went with the standard pepperoni, while Buck went with the italian sausage, peperoni, and prosciutto.

Lake Havasu Lighthouses

Unbeknownst to us, Lake Havasu is home to more Lighthouses than any other city in the country.  The Lighthouses are not full size, but rather they are functional scaled down replicas.  There are 18 that can be seen from the lake.  Most can be hiked to, while others are only accessible via boat.  The lighthouses are comprised of famous Lighthouses from the East Coast, West Coast, and Great Lakes.

London Bridge

The most famous landmark in Lake Havasu is the London Bridge.  The London Bridge was purchased from the Common Council of the City of London for $2,460,000 in 1968.  It was then completely disassembled, but not before each block was meticulously numbered.  The disassembled blocks were shipped through the Panama Canal to California before making their way to Lake Havasu. Reconstruction of the bridge was completed in 1971.

Paddlocks are placed by couples to symbolize their unbreakable bond.  The tradition of placing the locks started in London, but has also migrated to the states.  Couples place the locks and throw away the key.

To cap the night off right, Xscapers put on a Mac & Cheese Fest.  RVers attending the event could show off their recipe in hopes of winning “Best Mac & Cheese”.  Accompanying the Mac & Cheese competition was a Beerluck.  RVers brought a 6 pack of their favorite local craft beer. Being from Kansas, Buck thought it appropriate to bring a Wheat Beer.  He settled on Wushock Wheat from Wichita Brewing Company.  RaeLynn is not a beer drinker, but Buck’s favorite of the night was actually from a local Lake Havasu brewery.  The beer is called Desert Magic IPA by Mudshark Brewery.

I also happened to capture an action picture of Becky Schade of Interstellar Orchard and Kelly Beasley, co-founder of the website CampAddict spinning Poi.
