🫶 If you’re looking for a place that totally steals your heart, this is it. Hole-in-the-Wall is hands down one of our favorite coastal hikes — and here’s why you’ve got to add it to your list:
✨ The rock arch feels like a secret doorway carved by the ocean itself. It’s seriously magical to walk right through it and see the waves crashing beyond.
🥾 Trail Details:
 • Distance: ~3.3 miles round trip
 • Difficulty: Moderate
 • Best time to go: Around low tide for safest passage through the rock arch and best tidepool viewing 🦀
🪨 Highlights:
 • Dramatic sea stacks
 • Driftwood-strewn beaches
 • Tidepools teeming with marine life
 • The iconic rock arch at Hole-in-the-Wall
🕒 Pro Tip: Time your visit with low tide for full access to the arch and tide pools. Always check tide charts before you go!

📍 Cape Disappointment State Park (Part 2) 📌 📍 Cape Disappointment State Park (Part 2)
📌 Ilwaco, WA (Long Beach Peninsula)
📹 Check out the video at the end. The day started out sunny and turned foggy and cold.
😉 Not as disappointing as the name suggests.
🌊 Waves crashing, mist rolling in, and history around every bend—this place is full of dramatic views, lighthouse charm, and coastal solitude.
☁️ Our day stated out chasing sunshine at Cape Disappointment... ended up in a moody fog with the wind howling through the trees. 🌞➡️💨 Still a stunning reminder of how wild and unpredictable the coast can be.
📸 North Head Lighthouse: It was built in 1898 to assist mariners approaching the treacherous Columbia River bar from the north, complementing the existing Cape Disappointment Lighthouse. The lighthouse, a 65-foot brick tower with a sandstone base, sits on a basalt promontory 194 feet above sea level.
👀 We saw a Yellow-spotted millipede which typically live for 2 to 3 years.
🚶 Northhead Lighthouse Loop Trail is a 0.6 easy loop trail with 52 elevation.
🚶 Bells View Overlook Trail is a 0.5 easy out & back trail with 32 elevation.
📸 From stunning ocean views to historic lighthouses and epic hiking trails, this hidden gem on the Pacific Northwest coast is calling your name. Whether you’re chasing sunsets, exploring tide pools, or just soaking in nature’s wonder — Cape Disappointment has it all.
👍 Don’t forget your camera and your sense of adventure!

📌 Ilwaco, WA (Long Beach Peninsula)
🎥 Check out the video at the end of the Fort and lighthouse!
🚶 Cape Disappointment Trail is a 1.9 moderate out & back trail with feet 377 elevation.
❓ There’s a name for places like this—Cape Disappointment—that makes you hesitate before you go. You wonder if the journey will echo the name. Will it fall short? Will it hurt? Or maybe, just maybe, the name says more about the people who named it than the place itself.
🌿 Remnants of Fort Canby: Built in the late 1800s and early 1900s to defend the Columbia River, these concrete relics now stand silent — weathered by time, reclaimed by moss and mystery. Exploring them feels like stepping into a forgotten chapter of history, where rusted doors, echoing chambers, and lookout points whisper stories of soldiers on watch
✨ Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, the oldest on the west coast. It was first lit on October 15, 1856, and is still an active Coast Guard post. Its role in guiding ships through the treacherous Columbia River Bar, known as the Graveyard of the Pacific
➕ Cape Disappointment State Park is known for being windy due to its location at the mouth of the Columbia River where it meets the Pacific Ocean. The park is situated on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, exposed to strong winds that can be particularly intense during storms.
👍 Weather: It’s often foggy, windy, and damp—even in summer. Bring layers, a waterproof jacket, and good hiking shoes.

❓ Do you ever visit places twice? 📍 Haystack ❓ Do you ever visit places twice?
📍 Haystack Rock
📹 Check out the video at the end of the trial at Haystack!
📌 Cannon Beach, OR
✅ Add the Haystack trail to your Oregon list!
🌟 Make sure to check the tide schedule online and go during low tide. Go early in the morning to beat the crowd.
🚶 4.3 mile out-and-back with 15 ft. elevation gain, rated as easy.
➕ Why walk the trail? The views of Haystack from far away are stunning. There are tide pools and lots of starfish at the end of the trail. Oh did I mention...away from the crowds!
💦 Tide pools: The intertidal area around Haystack Rock is rich with life, including anemones, barnacles, mussels, snails, chitons, and sea stars.
😁 We found a Sand Dollar...yes it was probably the smallest we have ever seen.
🌟 Visiting a place a second time can really help you appreciate the true beauty.
👍 We ended up visiting 2 times. Once in the afternoon, and early in the morning when it was sunny.
