Xscapers 2019 Bash (Day 7)

Day 7

Today is all about Black Bear Diner and Boondocking.  For those of you who do not know the term “Boondocking”, it goes by several names. Dispersed camping, off grid camping, wild camping, but we tend to call it free camping out in the boondocks.  More about Boondocking later in the post, but for now back to Black Bear Diner.

When we found out Lake Havasu had a Black Bear Diner we were elated.  We used to frequent the establishment when we lived in Las Vegas.  The diner serves homestyle and old-fashioned comfort foods.  The menu, titled The Black Bear Gazette, is full of traditional diner favorites.  And who wouldn’t enjoy the disturbing amount of bear paraphernalia spread throughout the interior.

Buck decided to go with the Turkey Club (Triple-decker stacked with roasted turkey breast, thick-cut smoked bacon, smoked ham, tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise on sourdough), while RaeLynn went with the traditional Mac & Cheese with French Fries.

Boondocking Time!

We were very excited to attend a presentation on Boondocking given by the one and only Kyle and Olivia of Drivin’ and Vibin’.  Kyle and Olivia are two very successful hard working individuals in the full-time RV community.  They Boondock almost exclusively, and we felt their tips would be invaluable.  They currently live in a 16 foot vintage Fiber Stream, and are in the process of restoring and renovating a 1979 Argosy Airstream.

When we purchased our DRV Fifth Wheel, we knew we would be Boondocking a portion of the time.  As such, we wanted something that had enough fresh water, propane and batteries to last at least 7-10 days.  We are going on 7 days of Boondocking at the Lake Havasu Rodeo Grounds. We still have plenty of fresh water and our generator is keeping the batteries charged nicely.  I think we are starting to get the hang of this Boondocking thing!
